7/ 24 /00 Day 17, Monday, With the terrible news about Mesa Verde (20,000 aacres of 52,000 burned and still out of control) and the park closed for the foreseeable future, we decided to head for Canyonlands Nat'l Park. Many more formations than at the Grand Canyon; combination of all the beauty we've seen so far. Another very warm day, but we handled it better by not trying to do everything. It was interesting to see the colors used in the Navaho clothing and art in the colors in the hills. Also, the visitor center showed that the green color was from volcanic ash. Today, we saw great expanses of it. Where was there a volcano??? Headed for the first sign of civilization to find a place for the night, through Salina UT (Craig's dad had lived there for a time as a boy) but it hadn't grown much ;-). We ended in Richland UT; my, my...do I love our beautiful, wet Seattle!!!!!
